2025 Cops for Kids – Winnipeg to Los Angeles

On September 12th, 2025, the Winnipeg Police “Cops for Kids” bicycle relay team, will embark on their 14th fundraising campaign in support of Make-A-Wish Canada. Twenty members of the Winnipeg Police Service will be cycling around the clock, covering over 3,000 km’s from Winnipeg to Los Angeles in order to raise funds and help grant the wishes of children facing critical illness in our community.

Since 1995, Make-A-Wish Canada has been the charity of choice for the Winnipeg Police “Cops for Kids” team. To date, the team has raised over $525,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada (formerly Children’s Wish Foundation), helping to make more than 50 heartfelt wishes come true!

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, and is on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can help build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness.

While our team of riders are committed to fundraising and training for this grueling event, we truly cannot reach our goals without the generous donations of our friends, family, colleagues, and the Manitoba business community. Together with your support, our team can continue to bring joy and create lasting memories for these courageous children and their families.

Donate today! You can help make wishes like Pacey's come true!

I wish to go to a Florida theme park!”

When Pacey was just three years old, it was discovered that he had no function in his large intestine, worsening his small intestine along with losing most function in his stomach. As a result of this, he’s had to undergo 38 different surgeries due to repeated blockages, blood infections, and perforations. Procedures included having his large intestine removed, his feeding tube placed, his cecostomy tube placed, and his ostomy bag replaced. He’s also had to get a central line in his chest, where he receives TPN, an IV form of nutrition that keeps him alive as he can’t eat solid foods. “With having three sisters, it’s been hard to give extra focus on Pacey as he has many needs,” his parents, Kimberly and Benji, shared. “The inpatient stays would be the hardest on the whole family, as we live two hours from our closest children’s hospital. We’ve had to be far apart for long periods of time during the rough patches.” Pacey is now 10 years old and currently recovering from a recent hospital admission due to sepsis. Though he is still dealing with the difficult realities of his critical illness, he continues to live his life to the fullest. His motto is, “you only live once, so do whatever you can, while you can!” Pacey is an adventure seeker who loves anything fast and thrilling. His wish took him to a Florida theme park, where he could ride all the high-speed, electrifying roller coasters as many times as he wanted. “Our favourite memory was just having a week for us to all be together, doing fun family things, every single day,” his parents shared. “No appointments, no charting, no supply orders or clinic calls to make…we could just forget about the hard everyday things and step into a week of fun and carefree living! The memories made have already made an impact during the tough times we've had since returning. It's something we talk about almost every day, and we will cherish these memories for a lifetime.”
