We’d like to introduce you to this year’s John H. Daniels Memorial Golf for Wishes wish ambassador, Alice.
Alice, 6
brain tumour
I wish to go on a tropical vacation
At 10 months old, Alice was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Ahead of her was a long medical journey, facing three eye surgeries, 17 months of chemotherapy treatments, clinical trials, and a brain biopsy. Enduring treatment was only half of the battle; experiencing chronic nightmares, Alice needed care for the severe mental stress that came with encountering illness so young. Four years later, Alice has nearly recovered from the psychological toll from her experiences. However, her
journey is ongoing as she still experiences lingering nightmares. Keeping an eye on a growing tumour, Alice may have to start treatment again later this year, facing a brain tumour head-on.
Alice loves two things: mermaids and her family. She wished to go somewhere she could swim in the sea and
play with her sisters on the shore. Little did she know that her wish would bring her to beautiful tropical reefs. During her stay, she fell in love with the beach, where she embraced life like a true mermaid. With her hair braided, swimming in crystal-clear waters, and playing with her sisters in the sand, Alice’s wish was perfect.
For a whole week, the family lived worry-free, with no appointments, treatment options, or side effects to think about. Keeping up with the demanding medical world while juggling the responsibilities of everyday life is “exhausting and stressful,” shared Alice’s mother, Sarah. “This wish trip took all of that away. We were able to just spend time together, having fun and making memories. It was the best week of our lives.” The road to recovery has been exhausting, leaving both Alice and
her family in need of respite. Their wish may have taken them to the warm tropics, but the true escape was a week of peace, allowing them respite before facing the road ahead.
Hope is essential for children with critical illnesses, and its life-changing power is unlocked when wishes like Alice’s are granted. Thanks to the generosity of our donor community, we can continue to transform lives, one wish at a time.
