For two years in a row now, I gathered up my courage and participated in Make-A-Wish® Rope for Hope, rappelling down from the Coast Edmonton hotel downtown, to help grant the wishes of children living with critical illnesses. I had so much fun and we were able to do so much good I am signing up to do it again! I was the top fundraiser in the region for a second time last year, and my team went onto raise enough to fully fund another wish. A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their critical illness. For many of them, it marks a turning point in their fight against their illnesses.
So many of you helped make this event super-successful last year and we are looking to you and those you know again for help this year to do the same. Two years ago, we granted the wish of a child named Hiro, a young kid with cancer who was able to go to DisneyWorld and LegoLand with his family. We got to meet him in person and see his journey and it was amazing. Last year, we granted the wish of Porter, an amazing young fellow who has been the poster child of the Stollery Hospital for this last while. It is truly a humbling honour every time.
My own daughter, Sarah, is a wish kid, as she was granted her wish 9 year ago as she was battling with a rare auto-immune disease. As you can see, this cause is very near and dear to my heart as I am a Wish Dad.
You can help make a difference too! Your support will allow the Foundation to continue to create powerful wish experiences, improving a child’s state of mind, replacing fear with happiness and helping them to feel like a normal kid again.
