Support Me

The BC Lightning program is much more than just a Spring Hockey development program. BCL prides itself on helping instil and teach life skills and values that will help the young athletes in the program grow as a member of the community.  As we enter into the last month of the Spring season we are excited to start our charitable element to the program.

This year we will be supporting Make-A-Wish Canada. Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness.

Below is the story of Nevan Coburn. Nevan currently plays goalie for our 2009 BCL team. He is an inspiration to all of us!

"In 2016, Make-A-Wish made my dream come true to attend the NHL All Star Game in Nashville, Tennessee.  While I was there I got the experience of a lifetime and met many NHL Players and Goalies.  When I was sick in the hospital in 2011, it was that Canucks team that gave me hope and courage to fight my battle with cancer, so meeting Schneids, Luuuuuu and Daniel Sedin were highlights for me.  The experience with Make A Wish has encouraged me to give back and help others in need.  I hope you all will join me in making someone’s wish come true."  Nevan Coburn 2009 BC Lightning

BCL has connected with Make-A-Wish Canada, and we have set a goal to raise $1,000 as a program from May 15th- June 15th. We encourage all players and their families to get involved and help raise money for a great cause, here is how they can join in the fun.

The BC Lightning program has 3 challenges. Kids can accept as many of the challenges as they like, and use these as a way to improve your skills and raise money for a good cause at the same time.

Challenges :

1. Shoot pucks each day or week for 30 days or 4 weeks

Players can select the number of pucks they pledge to shoot each day/ week

2- Push ups each day or week for 30 days or 4 weeks

Players can select the number of push ups they pledge to do each day/ week

3- KM Ran each week for 4 weeks

Players can select the number of kilometres they pledge to run each week.

Please use the attached template to keep track and go to friends, family and neighbours to receive donations.

Please ask people who are donating to your pledges to visit the following link to make their donation (tax receipts will be provided directly from Make-A-Wish Canada

When the player receives donations for their pledges it’s really important for you to do your part, and do the work. Shooting pucks, doing push ups and going for runs will be a great way for you to advance your hockey skills!

If parents want to get in on the action they can as well!

As an added incentive, NHL player Shea Theodore of the Vegas Golden Knights, who is also a cancer survivor, will be donating some great swag that we will be giving away as prizes for the players who raise the most money.
